Miwok youth engaged in culturally grounded learning and education
Department

Education Committee

Supporting the educational advancement of California Valley Miwok citizens at every stage of learning.

Mission

The Education Committee coordinates resources and support for tribal citizens pursuing educational opportunities — from early childhood through post-secondary, vocational, and continuing education. The committee works to ensure that no tribal citizen is left without information about the educational benefits, federal programs, and outside resources to which they may be entitled.

Key Responsibilities

  • Information & referral. Provide tribal citizens with current information on educational benefits, federal Indian education programs, and outside scholarship resources for which they may qualify.
  • School coordination. Serve as a point of contact between tribal citizens, the tribe, and local school districts, Indian Education programs (Title VI), and post-secondary institutions.
  • Native American Heritage Month. Support culturally accurate education about California Native peoples in schools serving tribal children and the broader public.
  • Citizen advocacy. Advocate for the educational interests of CVMT citizens in matters before educational agencies and policymakers.
