Who We Are

A sovereign nation, continuously recognized.

The California Valley Miwok Tribe — formerly known as the Sheep Ranch Rancheria of Me-Wuk Indians of California — is a federally recognized sovereign tribal nation, recognized continuously by the United States since 1916.

In October 2024, the tribe ratified its constitution through a Secretarial election conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs under Section 16 of the Indian Reorganization Act, formally establishing the governance framework under which our elected Tribal Council now serves.

Our tribal government operates from San Andreas, California. Our homeland lies in the San Joaquin Valley region of central California.
