Constitutional Foundation

The governance of the California Valley Miwok Tribe is established under its constitution, ratified through a Secretarial election conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs on October 1, 2024, in accordance with Section 16 of the Indian Reorganization Act of June 18, 1934.

  • Issues ballots and notices. Distributes official ballots, voter information, and election notices to eligible citizens.
  • Tallies and certifies results. Conducts the count of ballots and certifies the results to the Tribal Council.
  • Resolves election questions. Receives and decides questions arising in the conduct of an election, subject to any appeal rights provided in the Constitution.
